Combining aerial photography with ground-based architecture photography provides a complimentary package that ensures a complete set of photos of commercial, industrial, and residential real estate. Property managers, owners and brokers alike need both aerial photos and ground photos to showcase real estate property for print and online marketing.
Because a picture is always worth at least a thousand words, it’s essential that only the very best and most complete set of photos are created. Therefore, we shoot our aerial photography using full-size professional cameras and lenses, which along with proper image processing, ensures the most accurate, detailed and highest image quality photos of specific buildings, project sites, and more. This same type of equipment are also essential to ground-based architecture photography. And perspective of a location, from multiple heights, is important, too. All of these elements and more combine to create descriptive and good-looking photos.
Selecting the correct professional camera and lens for aerial photography and architectural photography is also important. The same set off multi-thousand dollar camera and lenses can be used, however, a different lens focal length will be selected for the aerial photos compared to the architectural photos. Lens image quality must will always be of the highest possible rating, as will the camera body and accompanying sensor choice.
Proper equipment choice must also extend to the airborne platform from which to fly and acquire the aerial photos. The clear choice for aerial photography of buildings or other property is helicopter and it’s what we primarily use. The great maneuverability, precision placement above the project site, and ability to orbit and capture photos at multiple heights, all within the sometimes tight flight constraints of restricted airspace or client’s turnaround time frame, are reasons why we use a helicopter for aerial photography. Specifically, we employ the low-cost, fast and non-obtrusive Robinson R22, flown and operated by the very same company that flies cinematic photographers in Hollywood for TV and movies. We fly doors-off for the clearest and sharpest aerial photography.
So what does a complete aerial photography and architecture photography package look like? Shown above in the carousel of images, and here below, are a series of aerial photos and architectural photos captured of the same commercial property site in San Diego, California. The aerials were photographed at two altitude orbits, one at 1000 feet and the other at 500 feet. A third, much tighter orbit was flown below 500 feet to obtain a direct downward, or nadir, view of the property. Shown along with these aerial photos are multiple architectural photos of the same building site shot from different vantage points on the ground. These images are but a few sample of the 50 plus images that were prepared for our client, but you can see that the different altitudes and perspectives provide a total and complete photographic documentation and survey of the project site.
