A delightful couple and a lovely Afghan wedding ceremony that we photographed in Scripps Ranch, San Diego, California. Surrounded by family and friends, and complete with traditional colors and splendid homemade food dishes. The backyard pool and waterfall added to the nice setting for the wedding ceremony.

With a Western influence, the couple’s Afghan wedding ceremony, called a Nikah, was a religious Islamic marriage ceremony in which a marriage contract is agreed upon during a gathering of the couple’s immediate family. The ceremony was lead by their Islamic clergyman, the mullah. Also in Afghan custom, Myra wore a green dress for her Afghan wedding ceremony, and the table cloth for the main table was also green. The color green is associated with prosperity and paradise in Islamic tradition.

This day of Afghan wedding ceremony photography for Myra and Behzad’s is only part of the celebration that we will be photographing for the couple. Her wedding reception is scheduled for a different day, where many more guests and a more elaborate affair will take place. We are looking forward that part of her wedding photography and will post another article about that event, to stay tuned for much more. And for more about Afghan weddings, you can see and read all about her cousin’s wedding that we also photographed.
