It’s always a delight to photograph in the lovely coastal San Diego community of La Jolla, and when there’s a wedding it just seems brighter. With the blue Pacific Ocean, beautiful beaches, and tall California palms it’s no wonder why Amber and Sean chose this spot for their La Jolla Cove wedding photos. And the area is certainly one of my favorite San Diego wedding venues, too.
The couple’s wedding day photography began in two separate locations. First, my assistant provided the second photographer shots of Sean and the guys getting ready not far from La Jolla. She captured wedding day photos of the groom and groomsmen finishing up getting ready, and then some fun shots of them near Windansea Beach. After an hour of pre-wedding photography, the guys headed on over to the Ellen Browning Scripps Park to prepare for the ceremony and La Jolla Cove wedding photos that I’d be capturing in just a short while.
Meanwhile, I was at a vacation rental home in the center part of the city which the couple had rented for a few days, and where bride Amber and her bridesmaids were getting ready. The home would also be the location for the couple’s backyard reception later that day. Photographing hair and make-up, the fastening of dresses, and capturing portraits and the fun anticipation leading up to the wedding ceremony is certainly a part of the wedding day that is not to be missed.
The five bridesmaids were each wearing long black dresses, and bride Amber wore a long, straight-across wedding dress with lace edging. The gals’ wedding bouquets were a nice vibrant mix of orange, yellow and pinks. Bride Amber wore in her hair a an orange rose with white ginger, which complimented Sean’s orange rose boutonniere.
Time always flies by during the pre-wedding part of a wedding photography package, and on this day with Amber it was soon time to head to the ceremony venue to begin creating her and Sean’s La Jolla Cove wedding photos. And once at the park near La Jolla Cove, the wedding ceremony soon got underway.
While photographing the couple’s wedding ceremony I could see that it was as much fun as it was heartfelt. It lasted about 15 minutes, just enough time for Amber and Sean to exchange the vows each had written for the other, to exchange rings, then to be pronounced married! We created a collection of posed and more relaxed La Jolla Cove wedding photos first in the park, then along the small cliff above the nearby beach. The wedding photography started with the wedding party but was mostly just of the couple.
As wedding days go, time once again sped by and it was time for us to make our way back to the vacation house for the couple’s backyard wedding reception. Once at the house, where the guests had been enjoying appetizers and cocktails while the couple and I were creating their La Jolla Cove wedding photos, the reception soon progressed into a catered dinner.
Photography for the backyard wedding reception captured shots of the food, guests, toasts, dances, garter and bouquet tosses, wedding cake cutting, and a few more portrait shots, some of which are also shown here in this wedding photography article for the couple.
