Renekia and Nick’s Catholic wedding in San Diego at St. Therese Catholic Parish was a delight to photograph. From final getting ready photos, their Catholic wedding ceremony, creative and posed photos at the parish and at Sunset Cliffs, through their wedding ceremony at Ocean View at Ballast Point at the U.S. Navy Submarine Base. The variety of settings, joy and fun of the day, it was all captured in a splendid collection of San Diego wedding photos for the couple.
When I first arrived at St. Therese Parish, Renekia and her bridesmaids were finishing up getting ready in a nice-sized room next to the parish. Sabrina had just finished working her magic with hair and makeup for the girls, and to too did stylist Angel of Avia Salon and Day Spa. Now it was my turn to capture some final getting ready shots of her, as well as of Nick who was elsewhere in the parish.
The parish itself is a very lovely building with wonderfully designed and landscaped grounds. With the catholic wedding in San Diego now about to start I positioned myself near the front inside the church, giving me best vantage point to shoot wide wedding shots showing the guests and the bridal party making their entrance, as well as tight, zoomed shots with my second camera.
After Nick and the bridal party were at the font, and while Renekia was making her entrance, I gradually moved off to the side so as to maintain a proper, unobtrusive perspective as their wedding photographer. Church weddings always require respectful use of cameras, whether photographing a Catholic wedding in San Diego, or any other religious type of wedding ceremony. Meanwhile, the couple’s wedding videographer team of Sia and Jose of Josia Visual Productions were also capturing everything in the beautiful style that always provide. Jose was in fixed video location, while Sia was moving about about and shoot from creative and interesting perspectives like me.
Not having the same freedom of movement like in less formal wedding ceremonies sure doesn’t mean there’s a limitation on the type and quality of wedding photos. Just the contrary. The longer length of formal wedding ceremonies, like Renekia and Nick’s Catholic wedding in San Diego, means more time to move around to create really fantastic wedding photography using perspectives and composition not possible in shorter wedding ceremonies.
Following the couple’s wedding ceremony we first created some posed wedding photos inside of the parish, then moved outside for even more creative shots. The archways, garden, statues, and overall backdrop of the parish building really helped in complementing their collection of Catholic wedding photos. But now it was time to create even more diversity in their wedding photo collection by first heading to Sunset Cliffs. This was a nice transition from the Catholic wedding in San Diego to the couple’s reception at Ocean View at Ballast Point.
Formally known as Ocean View at Ballast Point, the wedding reception venue was at the submarine base, Naval Base Point Loma, in the neighborhood of Point Loma in San Diego, California. Ocean View is another of the many nice Navy Region Southwest wedding venues where we’ve photographed. This area is in fact quite historic, with importance to the region dating as far back as 1795.
Renekia and Nick’s wedding ceremony at Ocean View was hosted not the outdoors patio, right next to San Diego Bay. With the city lights in the background, and great uplighting and wonderful music quality provided by Primo DJs, the evening celebration was a lot of fun, intermixed with a bit of emotion, too. Toasts, dancing, cutting of the cake made by Flour Power, and the always fantastic service and food from the staff at Ocean View made for a memorable wedding celebration and family reunion, too!
