Kristen and David Mission Beach Women’s Club Wedding

Taking place right next to San Diego’s lovely Mission Bay was Kristen and David’s Mission Beach Women’s Club wedding. The wonderfully delightful couple and their family and friends were such a pleasure to capture during their wedding photography at this historic location.

Since being founded in 1926, the Mission Beach Women’s Club has dedicated to community service, charitable giving, educational enrichment and social opportunities. Its clubhouse, located along the Mission Bay boardwalk, with spectacular views of the bay, palms and boats, and indoor and outdoor space, made the Mission Bay Women’s Club wedding the perfect venue for Kristen and David.

The couple’s San Diego wedding photography actually began more than a year before their wedding, when I had the nice opportunity to meet with the couple and the bride’s mom. We talked a lot about what was important to their wedding, what they wanted captured, and what they had envisioned for their day. This first meeting is always is so important as well as interesting. It gave the couple and me a chance to get to know each other more, and that builds confidence so that we both know that the wedding day will get photographed properly.

The process of getting to know each other is often also enhanced through an engagement photography session, and although we didn’t create one this time, we still developed a great photography plan and a nice custom wedding photography package for them. Fast-forward to their wedding day, and their actual wedding photography started. First, with capturing shots of their Mission Beach Women’s Club wedding venue, some final getting ready shots of Kristen looking lovely in her wonderful wedding dress, then shots of the seating area outside on the grass, adjacent to the sandy beach.

Kristen and David’s Mission Beach Women’s Club wedding ceremony was wonderful for its location of course, but the real beauty was for these two best of friends to be married in front all their family and friends, a number of which had travelled from across the country. The couple also had a nice and unique sharing ceremony that they created. It centered on pouring two glasses of different beers into one glass, then each drinking the blend. A similar idea to sand ceremonies, but the beer ceremony was certainly more refreshing on this hot day, and a very special gesture given the history of sharing beer.

Following their Mission Beach Women’s Club wedding ceremony and some posed photos with family, we ventured across the street to Mission Beach for some wedding party photos, and then stopped into a local bar so that they could celebrate with another first drink, courtesy of the bar! With that we headed back the clubhouse where the couple was announced and their reception began.

I have to give credit to DJ Bryan Jemison of Envious Entertainment for doing a wonderful job of coordinating the reception’s schedule, toasts, sound, and music.  And he really drew a nice laugh and made a good point when he had Kristen and David doing a fun demonstration of it being the last time for David to have the upper hand, if he ever did. Just teasing, David!

This was also the second wedding where I had the pleasure of working with Chef Bill Major of Major Events and Catering, whose catering was again excellent. Not only the catering, but his helping to coordinate the reception was spot on. He and his staff’s service was excellent, from presentation, preparation, serving, and even slicing up the fantastic 3-tier wedding cake from Tower Bakery.
