The historic Lafayette Hotel San Diego made for a fun vintage engagement photo session for Malika and Rob. In addition to the classic features of the hotel it was Rob’s motorcycle that added a nice feature to the couple’s photo shoot at the hotel and nearby alley.
Engagement photos sessions, like these for Malika and Rob at the Lafayette Hotel San Diego, are a really great wedding idea because there are so many benefits from the shoot. First there’s the wonderful collection and variety of portrait photos created from before the couple are married. And for the wedding, the photos can be used for announcements, at the wedding reception for table numbers, or a photo can be made into a large mounted print for guests to see at the reception.
Engagement photos can also be used to create a very personalized wedding guest book. This a popular wedding idea that I’ve created for couples and it’s something that I’ll be making for Malika and Rob, too. The wedding guest book is especially fun for couples and guests because it contains a collection of the wide variety of photos that are created during the engagement session. A broad mix of wonderful photos was certainly the case with Malika and Rob’s engagement session at the Lafayette Hotel San Diego, so their wedding guest album is going to be fantastic to look through and sign on their wedding day.
The engagement photo session also provides another very important part of wedding photography, and that is to help the couple get used to the camera. In fact, it’s also a great opportunity for all three of us (the couple and me) to get comfortable with each other. The time together in the engagement session can really help photography on the wedding day because we’ve had a chance to get know each other and what to expect. It’s an important investment in wedding photography and a key reason why I include it in many of my wedding photography packages.
