We recently had the pleasure of capturing a lovely afternoon and evening of quinceañera photography in San Diego at Ocean View on Ballast Point. This special event for Salina, her family and friends, marked her 15-year old birthday party.
Ocean View at Ballast Point, is a wonderful event and wedding venue that is is located on Naval Base Point Loma, home to the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet of submarines and much more. The area is located at the far end of the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego, California. Ocean View is another of the many nice Navy Region Southwest wedding venues where we often photograph events and weddings.
Quinceañera is the Spanish word for a girl who is 15 years old. Among Latinos in the United States, quinceañera also is the name given to the coming-of-age celebration on a girl’s 15th birthday. The quinceañera has its origins many centuries ago when both boys and girls participated in rites of passage. Because of this important tradition, it was important that that our quinceañera photography in San Diego captured all of the special moments.
The special moments that the quinceañera photography in San Diego captured for Salina and her family started with getting final ready photos of the three young men that were part of Salina’s court. The getting ready took place in the nice hotel rooms that are also located at Ocean View. Following general and details shots of the guys it was time to photograph Salina and the two girls in her court, as they were now dressed and ready, too.
Photography of the girls took first place in the room, on the balcony overlooking Point Loma and the entrance to San Diego Bay. Next we wanted to make more creative shoots of just Salina, and then with her court. We did this outside on the staircase leading to their fifth-floor room. Afterwards we shot the quinceañera photography in San Diego on the ground level, using the nice architecture of the hotel building and the nice grounds overlooking San Diego Bay. This venue is a wonderful space for it’s amazing views and the buildings architecture, which you can see in other events and weddings we’ve shot at Ocean View at Ballast Point.
Following the fun and formals photos it was time for the quinceañera celebration to begin. With the guests seated and the music queued by DJ Guy, Salina, her family, then her court made their entrance. The ceremony was lead by their pastor, who guided Salina and her parents through the exchange of gifts and Salina sharing some brief thoughts with her guests. This was followed by a first dance with her father, then her date and her court.
Capturing all of the moments for her with quinceañera photography in San Diego surely preserved highlights and details of the fun evening. From the party with its buffet and fondue, to more great music by DJ Guy and lots of dancing, it was a great event for everyone. We are delighted to of captured it for Salina and her family.
