The still shots created in expo and convention photography are unbeatable for their quality and value in documenting and marketing trade show booths. However, virtual photography and panoramas provide yet another important aspect of convention photography because it’s a unique and powerful tool for interactively exploring the complete environment of a trade show booth.
At the recent Solar Power International 2015 convention at the Anaheim Convention Center, I had the opportunity to provide virtual photography for Plus Studios, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Plus Studios had created three magnificent trade show booths for solar energy companies SunEdison and Kaco, and they requested complete marketing and photo documentation of their impressive displays.
The still and virtual photography entailed capturing photos of two indoor trade show booths under convention center and stage lighting, as well one exhibit booth outdoors at night. The outdoor booth also featured a bright light that shot projected beam into the sky which needed capturing through photography, too. The booths measured up to 50 feet x 50 feet, and were 20 feet tall. Because of their complexity and design, required several virtual photography view points.
Virtual photography, like event photography and commercial photography, is very detailed and requires the use of special lenses, great attention to detail, and a collection of computer software in order to properly edit and stitch the images into a spherical panorama, which in turn is processed further into an interactive spherical view. The interactive virtual reality photography view is then created as an additional final product.
Featured above are the four panorama photography images created for Plus Studios of their SunEdison and Kaco energy trade show booths. Also shown are each of the virtual reality photography views associated with two of the SunEdison panoramas. Take a tour of each of views, and explore the booths by panning, zooming and even spinning a view, looking left, right, up and down.
Expo photography and virtual photography products provided to Plus Studios included a day of onsite photography, image processing, creation of panorama photos, SWF and HTML view files of the virtual photography, and hosted secure download of all images and views in both high and low resolution.
